I have an acquaintance that supplies antique electronics to the movie and television industry in SOCAL.
His electronics passion is tube tv and radio repair, and has no love for 80's and 90's stuff unless it's pristine. But he does collect and maintain groups of TV's that are typical of any era.
Recently he found about 12 tv's from an abandoned mining town from around 1973, and most of the sets were filled with silt from rains and mouse droppings. Just about all he was able to resurrect. Remember these were the TV's that miners left after their job ended, so you can't imagine they were very valuable 45 years ago.

I suppose it's possible, but it seems unlikely. Whole sets are completely and properly dressed for the eras. The sheer amount of 80s cars... The lighting, the paints, wallpapers, phones, clothing, hairstyles, shoes, everything. It's just really amazing.
Spielberg probably wouldn't do what you suggest, just based on the secrecy surrounding something like Super 8. A production like this probably wouldn't because it'd be hugely impractical to do four seasons running like that, if nothing else. (I'm only just about through the first season of the two available on Netflix. It's going to be a painful wait for the last two seasons!)
