I am going to assume that the error message said that it was index.0 (the
one you're trying to build) was in use. In that case, there's your answer.
It's not that someone was "updating a record", but rather that someone was
using index 0 in that file. (eg: from dclerk's "index selection" menu choice.)
For example:
