As some of you know, the TV show "The Big Bang Theory" was co-created by
Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.
Bill used to be my partner in The Small Computer Company and was a major
player in the design of filepro.
"Howard Joel Wolowitz", the character on the show, is named after me.
Bill said he always thought my name was perfect for a Jewish nerd. and
asked permission before he used it.
His daughter Stella just had her Bat Mitzvah and my wife Jill and I were
invited to attend.
We went and had the most fabulous time. Stella did a wonderful job and
had a great Alice in Wonderland themed party.
He also invited us to attend a taping of the show and even asked me if I
wanted to be an extra in it.
Wood eye! (old joke.) Of course I said yes.
After taking the Warner Brothers tour at noon we went to the final run
through at 2:30.
At 6 we returned to the set from eating at the studio commissary to
watch the actual performance.
First they show the previous episode to catch the audience up on the
current story line. Then they perform the new show, occasionally
stopping for a re-take. The cast is amazingly good and re-takes weren't
needed very often. No real bloopers to report.
I was in the very last scene, sitting at the back of a diner. I'm not
sure if they will use the scene (they had an alternate ending in mind)
and even if they do I'm not sure I can be seen on camera but it sure was
fun.
(We didn't leave the studio until around 11PM.)
The episode is titled "The Re-Entry Minimization" and is scheduled to be
broadcast on Oct 18th by CBS.
For some photos of our trip go to: http://www.photobuff.com/LA-2012.
(Photographs during the rehearsal and performance are strictly forbidden
but we were able to take a few with some of the cast after the show.)
(I know, I know, if it wasn't me I'd be jealous too.)
Enjoy - we sure did.
Howie
PS: They even had to pay me at the non-union rate of $80.00. Talk
about gilding the Lilly!
