Dennis,

If you are running Fp 5.6 you are using the license manager. 

As for advantage, that is for FpTech in insuring that users have payed for the number of licenses as users.  The confusion is that the license is not based on seats but a count of either clerk or report sessions being used. 

If your system is having problems I would suggest upgrading to the latest release of Fp. And also as Ken suggested, check you os.
