Another quick way of isolating a system maintained field vs. a possible dummy field displayed in various ways by processing, from IUA, go into browse mode, and add the system maintained field (!@CD).  Dummy variables are not displayed unless specifically programmed into the browse.  You will see the true contents of the creation date.
