GPS Tracking a little OT

In March I purchased a GPS unit from Cobra at a G.I.Joe's outdoor store.
Cost with mapping software was under $200. This is a fairly rugged
portable unit with memory and a USB interface. I then trekked the canyons
around the edge of Death Valley.
This unit can do tracking, whereby it records its location over time. This
does NOT require that it be connected to a PC at the time.
Later, you can plug it into a USB port, and its memory becomes visible as
a thumb drive. I *believe* that the tracking data is visible as an ASCII
file. I don't have it with me at the office.
I think this should give you what you need.
