Flying to the FP Converence in Philly - was RE: GPS Tracking a little OT

(top posted for John)

I booked a commercial flight to Philly. (It would have cost me more
than the $196.00 Northwest ticket price in fuel alone to fly my Piper
Cherokee out there...)

I'll respond privately as far as the video taping...

Side note: The only commercial flight that would work, timing wise and
at a low fare price, involves having me fly WEST 200 miles from Green Bay to
Minneapolis, then catching another flight directly EAST from Minneapolis to
Detroit, flying DIRECTLY over my home, and then catching a 3rd flight from
Detroit to Philly.

I just dread Detroit, because a couple of years ago, on the way TO the
FP conference in Tampa, I watched from the terminal window while the bag
holding my camera equipment went up the conveyor and hit the side of the
plane, falling off of the conveyor and dropping over 20 feet onto the
concrete! I gasped"Oh, no! My video equipment!!!"

All of us passengers were watching and gasping, because, before the
loaders finished, 3 or 4 other bags did the same thing, falling on top of my
bag. When the loading was done, the guy doing the loading, oblivious to us
watching, calmly walked over and threw our bags onto the belt again just
like nothing happened. Fortunately, I had packed my cameras and VCRs in
bubble wrap, and everything arrived in Tampa in working order.

However, when I got home, I *believe* one of my 3 video cameras was
missing. (I unpacked everything hastily and didn't notice it was gone until
a few months later, when I needed it to tape another event. It might have
"gone missing" from my office at some other point, though...)

Thanks,

Mike
