For what it's worth, I have a client whose machine both he and I have
used to access the Internet (among other things) from 1996 to date,
starting on a dialup, and for the last year on cablemodem -- only the
last month or two with a router.

No viruses.

No spyware.

No trojans.

How?

No Outhouse Express.

No Internet Exploiter.

The latter only gets fired up to do Windows Update and the occasional
Trend Housecall virus scan, which always comes up dry. It's off all
the menus, I have to hunt for it. It is also set to come up blank.

Netscape 4, 6, 7, up now to 7.1.2.

Runs like a top.

It *can* be done. Infections have to vector somehow. Just Say No.

Cheers,
