I'm pretty much on board with the others.  Offer to show them a screenshot of your up to date AV software-that should be sufficient.  And in return ask how they want you to connect (preferably VPN with 2FA).

Yeah, that is pretty much what I did before the call.  I figure I ask
and have others share their views on this to make sure I am not
doing what I am well known for, shooting from the hips. :-)
