Bill,
The ncftp suggestion does it.  It accomplishes about 90% of what I need. The
rest I can get by writing some scripts for the program to also do the rest.
Maybe someone else has already written the JAWS scripts and I won't have to
reinvent the                                            wheel.


Meanwhile, in looking at this, I found out that I can streamline FileZilla
in a way that makes it more accessible as well.  So, I may have two methods
that will work, one character-based (preferred) and one GUI. 
     I almost considered going back to my previous modem just to get the
command line FTP back again, but the increased speed available for
virtually no extra charge, made it a bad idea.
