Yeah. It won't be a problem until it is. Then it will be a BIG
problem.

And you're still obviously exercising 1982's best practises, if that.
> I'm more of a "Jack of All Trades" than a super tech like you Mark,

It's easy to maintain and support it when you're doing no bloody
maintenance. No OS upgrades == no meaningful maintenance.
> I've never been a purist or a "Sizzle" seller, I just like things that work,
> and, for me, that's been SuSe & Filepro.
And it'll keep working for you, until someone makes it not work. When
they do, it will be a spectacular failure. Have fun with that.
> Mark, I do value your opinion, and while it may be dumb, I still stand by what
> I think about SuSe & Filepro.
You're welcome to your opinions. However, you're exemplary of a huge
majority subset of filePro programmers who -do not know systems-. Your
reliance upon YaST is testament to the fact you don't. YaST is meant to
help people who don't know any better. It doesn't scale at all. Try
maintaining 100+ (or 1000+) machines using YaST. Tell me when you're
done making a simple change. You learn the underlying subsystems, and
you automate.
filePro programmers not knowing the underlying systems upon which they
run their software is the reason we end up with forests of 0777/0666
permissions. They don't know any better. They're also dangerous to
their organisations, and their own careers.
It's hard to value someone's opinion when you know they're wrong.
That's not personal; that's objectively following the data. I know it's
out of vogue, and all, but it's the proper way to view things.
By all means, fly your opinions straight into the ground, as is your right.
I'm 'just' the guy people call in to fix the mess which results when people
who practise methodologies like yours get cracked; what would I know? :)
