report not printing

Scott,

That is always a problem.  One solution is to try to train the employees
but that never works 100%.

Another is to move the user or report to another place.  This is a bit
of work but something has to happen differently.

It is possible to skip locked records - I believe these is a environment
variable for that.  But that will omit the data the user might be
sitting on.

Is the user in the file running the report or just locking a record in
that file?

You said cron job so I am guessing a Linux/Unix but if it is Windows I
always setup my scheduled tasks to abort after XX hours and then you do
not get output.  I hate them hanging around.  On Linus/Unix I am not
sure you have that option.

Let me give you a data entry situation that works for me.  I have 50
users that are ordering things from a file.  Instead of having them
running around in that file, they are in a work file that holds no
data.  The file has just a few bits of data, and it pulls in everything
else then writes it all back.  This keeps everyone out of the way so the
main file is not so busy.

This has worked well.  You can manage reports along the same line, if
you are able to do lookups and process the data from there to print.
Complex selections and sorts might be an issue but it depends on the report.
