If they choose to penalise themselves for zero tangible net benefit,
that's up to them. I'd call that moronic.

If I stopped buying from every company with whose policies I don't
agree, I wouldn't have any vendors left.

There's also a limited impact to a company's bottom line unless they're
-wayyyy- out in left-field. Look at Chic-Fil-A...doing fine all this
time, multiple boycotts notwithstanding.

In a high-volume, large-scale enterprise, there's always someone on
the other side of an issue willing to be a customer and fill the
tiny-to-mediocre void left by the dissenters.

As a more recent example, people have been allegedly boycotting Netflix
left and right over "Cuties", and yet Netflix have suffered no actual
lasting impact that has been publicly disclosed. I'd be surprised if
they lost more than 0.01% of their subscribership.

Generally speaking, if a company doesn't bend to public whim within a
week, they're likely not going to, and any sustained impact is laughable.
All those boycotters are doing is depriving themselves of a service they'd
otherwise enjoy. Their loss.

Me, I'll pick my battles. I only cut a company loose when they've done
something that affects me -directly-. In that case, God help them, because
there's usually either no coming back from that, or it will cost a -lot- in
some form. Just doing something with which I disagree? No, that's silly.
I disagree with probably 95-99% of the population on a lot of things. That
doesn't mean I can't amicably do business with them. Now, directly screw
me over on something tangible which -actually- affects me personally, and
good luck with that. That's an -entirely- different story, and I show no
mercy when forced into that position.

Everyone is completely free to deprive themselves of whatever they like.
I simply see no need.
