That's the best model to use for servers at this point in time, in my
opinion. I'm a fan of the abstraction layer when games aren't involved.

I use perl and gvim.

Windows 7 is still my main desktop. It will be until I'm forced to Win10
for security reasons in a couple years. I'm -not- anxious to have the 3hr
discussion with MS about reactivating my Office 2010 license when I upgrade
the OS. That happened already when I preemptively replaced my hard drives
before they could start dying. I'm not eager to feel like I'm going to
have a stroke anytime soon. That was one of the most infuriating phone
calls I've had with any vendor since I dropped Adaptec over their lack of
official Linux support back in the day.
I'm just really not anxious to see how many copy protection schemes barf.
Thankfully, much of my music production software is fine, but I don't know
about all of it, and there is -so much- of it. :)
