Not really. Windows Server is largely a fire-and-forget endeavour, with
minimal knowledge to set it up properly. There's very little to do in
terms of optimisation, and active hardening is almost non-existent.
By contrast, you can optimise a lot more on a Linux server, and the steps
taken to actively harden it require a specialised skillset, and someone who
actually knows what they're doing. While almost any trained monkey can
deploy a Windows Server to the same results, the same cannot be said in the
*nix world. Quality matters far more in that arena.
Quite frankly, a Linux sysadmin worth their salt will run you far more than
an equivalent Windows Server 'admin'.
The cost trade-off does not save you money. If anything, you pay more for
a -proper- Linux admin than you would save on licensing.
Additionally, this comparison entirely discounts the notion that some
houses prefer to purchase RHEL, with its attendant support, in which case
you get utterly reamed on Linux, thus costing you even more.
