Backing up your linux server & filePro w/ it

However, -also- note that VMware Workstation Pro 14 (or any other version
of it) running on a Windows host does -NOT- have a VSS writer. This means
that if you have VMs actively running, the VMDKs will probably -not- be
backed up correctly. You need to shut down the guest VMs before you can
get a VSS snapshot.
Confirmed personally with Macrium Reflect, and I've done research which
says Acronis TrueImage fares no better.
This will be the last copy of VNware Workstation I buy until they support
VSS properly for Windows hosts. I only found out about this -after-
updating from 10 to 14 as a paid upgrade. Thankfully I'm only using it
for test VMs right now. However, that wasn't the full intent, and now I'm
screwed.
Then I ran into someone in their 'communities' forums who decided to try
and defend the lack of a VSS writer, using horribly biased information.
White knights are always 'fun' in any community.
There is no measure to how ticked I am with VMware right now. It's not
just the money; it's the principle. It is essentially not good for any
production use on Windows where you want to make backups without taking
down the VMs. In short, it's all but useless for any commercial purpose,
and many hobbbyist purposes.

It could be as simple as shutting down the server and making a copy of the vm files and bringing it back up without any network card and making changes to network settings and hostname. Or use VM tools for making copy. Or VM shere tools for making a clone from a running system.
