Just curious - filePro question

Sorry everyone if this post comes through wrong. I monitor the
digests but haven't posted in a long time.

We have migrate all customers from Unix to Windows. We use fileproGI
for all installs.

We made a handful of tweaks to our code to make buttons work, launch
helper programs with MSG-Send (instead of "system"), and a few other
items. But the core code is the same for the users running "GI" or
choosing to run in "Text mode" (just launching p.exe over a mapped
drive).

We also maintain live, parallel data in Microsoft SQL tables using the
"low-level" Filepro SQL commands.

Our sites are running on Windows Server 2008, 2012, or 2016 - and most
are virtual machines (Hyper-V or VMware)

In order to effectively run Filepro on a Windows server, you must
exclude /appl from antivirus scanning, disable opportunistic locking
(which includes dropping back to SMB1), turn off VMQ for certain
network cards, and a couple other tweaks.

Of course, GI is not as affected by the SMB issues and runs faster
than "text mode". GI is about twice the speed for batch processes.
Strangely, running "text mode" on the local server drive is faster
than a mapped drive on the same server. All that Microsoft packet
stuff gets in the way. Using remote desktop/terminal
services/published applications keeps everything on the servers and
reduces network traffic.

Other than Richard's response I have not seen any other responses.
This surprised me. Isn't anyone else doing filePro on Windows
environment using a GUI screen format either fpGUI, fpWeb or other?

Rick, I have played with the fpgi interface in the past. I am about to
implement the later version. That said, what one uses depends in it use.
The Fp product is the easiest to implement. Nothing to do. However, easy
modification can be made to add buttons and control the mouse path. If they
are looking to web enable the application then other products will offer a
better fit. Note these will need more programming. Richard Sent from my
