Windows server 2012

They have documented that the license manager uses port 6556. What I had not run into before was that server 2012 closed all or most of the ports it wasn’t using. This was different then the previous versions of Windows Server. Hence the heads up.

FP support advised early in to make sure that the port was open.

The only things I would suggest on a rewrite of the installer are the following

1. Option to upgrade and not do a complete install. Just the Fp programs that need to be installed with the maintenance release.

2. Have the installer stop, and restart the license service during an update or upgrade.

3. Check to see if the OS has closed port 6556 and open it if it is closed. Or at least supply a small program to check if the port is open. Yes, one can check the debug log or run fplmserver and check the output to see what the issues might be.

Installed McAfee and its routine opens the ports it needs.

What I noted is that the license manager checks the local machine and then the server before allowing Fp to run or fail.

My impression is that many install routines for software on Any OS can run into issues which depend on what else is installed. One has to go to the software’s forum to find the answer to the issue.

My simple reminder may make it easier for someone else to avoid the issue I ran into.
