The problem you're having with the Surface Pro 4 is common to high 
resolution (high DPI) screens - those over about 144 dots per inch. 
Microsoft made some steps toward accommodating these in Windows 8, more 
in 8.1, 10, and 10 Anniversary update. These fixes were effective with 
some existing programs, not so much with others. Apparently RDP is 
particularly a problem.

There's also the issue of having more than one monitor with different 
resolutions, and what happens when you move a window from one to another, 
or connect or disconnect.

Note that it is still an option to run a screen at artificial resolution. 
That may address the problem in certain circumstances.
