Limits on fp 5.0 (Kenneth Brody)

Ken

As I said earlier, the PFNODF=ON did work however my subject line may have
prevented it from being seen properly (newbie stupidity)
I don't have the df values at the time but du for the file was: pay835
du=2689604 and was considerably less than other files that have already been
restructured w/o issues.

The "negative" being displayed on the file sizes is actually a "hyphen"
(sorry for the mislead)

However:
Within the FP file in question there were two key files that were ORIGINALLY
LINKED.
The original attempt at the restructuring would not allow it and referenced
the LINKED KEYS.

One key was subsequently removed and the restructure attempt continued.
The DISK SPACE WARNING was then displayed at which time the disk space was
evaluated versus what was available.

PFNODF=ON was used to ALLOW the restructure to bypass the warning. The file
structure was evaluated for the expansion of the field from 5,.0 => 8,.0

For those skeptics-Thank You...but:
All of this is occurring on a TEST SYSTEM to prevent any unforeseen issues -
no REAL ACTIVE KEYs would be affected.

Fully understanding the IMPLICATIONS of the purpose of PFNODF=OFF, it was
returned to the OFF state.

Subsequent FP files were then restructured w/o issues and w/o warnings about
DISK SPACE when PFNODF=OFF

In an attempt of fully understand WHY This error was generated, I can only
see one difference between the files that were restructured (without issue)
and the file in question - THE LINKED keys at the commencement of the
restructure request.

Is there something associated with a FP file that that is evaluated FIRST (a
processing check) when an attempt to restructure is requested? (I think yes
because of the First Warning about the linked keys)
If so, does what does it do? (aside from looking for linked key files)
Is it permanent or does it set another 'flag' such as the Disk Space Error?

As with all "ERRORS" this is more of a LEARNING issue at this time rather
than an issue of bypassing the Disk Space Error that was encountered.

Thanks
Kevin

Why are the file sizes listed as negative?

What does "df" say? (And which filesystem are the filePro files on?)

I have seen some systems which return incorrect disk space values for
devices with more than 2TB (or perhaps 4TB) of free space. (This isn't an
issue for 64-bit filePro.)

As already noted by Scott Walker, you can set PFNODF=ON to turn off Define
File's free space check. However, if there really isn't enough space, then
"bad things" can happen.

Hope you guys have a disclaimer advising that in such case, fpTech is
not responsible. lol

Perfect!!!

Let them say they did not see it ... Add a link to a "legal disclaimer"
where you further spell out your "not liable" ...
