Dummy fields & long variables

I seem to remember that there is a limit to the total number of dummy fields and long variables available in a processing table.  

1. Is there a limit and what is it if there is?
2. How do the dummy fields and long variables defined in auto processing affect this number?
3. How does long variables defined as global affect the number?
