The fact that it happened to you once or twice inside very limited testing
underlines my point that it's -not- production-level software. Used to act
like it in v3. Doesn't in v4. Possibly never will again.
Seriously, $250 makes all those problems just go away. You export your
VBox VM to OVA format (do NOT use Legacy mode on export!) and import it
into Workstation. You will have to switch MAC addresses for a *nix guest,
and on some distros (OpenSuSE), also the drive identifiers in grub and
fstab. And if you have more than one network adapter in the host, lock
bridging to the appropriate one. Other than that, it's totally painless.
