Thanks for the suggestion.

Video off will keep the screen from being updated but not stop a popup message.

I have a feeling that it would take an environmental variable of a command line option similar to one of the -D options.

Would like to export something like putenv "pfnoreadonlypopup",ON to keep the read only error message from popping up.

For intents and purposes, this is, for this group of users, a read only file.  The @key function pops up a browse to another file which they can't change.
