While I've used them for years, I would stay away from any of the
current HP Laser printers. I bought a CP2025DN last year for
about $350, thinking it was a good deal. Replacing the 4 toner
cartridges costs over $450.00 including Legal Plunder. My wife
managed to break something on the duplexer when loading paper
which was necessary to print from the auxiliary tray, and I found
to my dismay that HP won't sell the parts to fix it (of course it
had 4 new toner cartridges at the time :-). I will probably
replace it when they're done.
I get a lot of hardware from Hard Drives Northwest, a local
company with strong FilePro ties, and they recommended the Ricoh
Aficio C242DN for $475.00, and say the cost per page is about
half that of similar HP and Brother printers. I've had very good
experience with Ricoh products going back to the Radio Shack
Daisy Wheel II which was practially indestructible if one didn't
mind replacing print wheels fairly frequently. We also used some
fairly high end Ricoh scanners a decade ago when we were into the
document scanning and retrieval business.
