The filepro license is actually a session license not a user count license.
5 users with 2 open windows running filePro ea = 10 sessions. Requires a 10
user license.
This was discussed when the license manager was first implemented.
Please keep in mind that until the license manager, the windows version of
filePro did not keep track of users or sessions as far as I am aware.
On *nix systems the user count was tracked and each instance of either clerk
or report run was considered a user count even if report was run from a
system call from clerk.
With the license manager this changes and the user count is incremented when
either a clerk or report is run but not when sitting on a menu.
I have a client who needed a 30 user license as his office manage opened 5
sessions and he has staff both in his office and who log in remotely.
This is how this was implemented and as windows users it is annoying.
However filePro is not the only company to have a session count. QuickBooks
also uses a session count.
I think this issue has kept a lot of people from upgrading. I have not had
this problem with my client's as I have explained this to them plus they
needed some of the upgrades which 5.6 and now 5.7 offer. It is a trade-off
that one needs to be aware of.
