Huh?
First, what is in @CD? Is it the "correct" date, or is it 05/01/11? And if
it's the wrong date, have you figured out why?
How did changing the dummy field's name from "cd" to "ef" change anything?
And, finally, you can't see @CD in a text editor, since it's stored in
binary within the record header.
