/persistent:yes usb to lpt1 mapping in windows 7

That may be so, but it's irrelevant.  It's on a network share, and that's 
all that really matters here.  How it's physically attached to the print 
server doesn't matter.

Don't bother with old DOS books, since you're using Windows, not DOS.

I did the command you said you were using:

     net use lpt1: \\server\printer /persistent:yes

from a non-administrator command prompt, and it was still there after I 
rebooted this morning.  (I didn't try it from an administrator prompt. 
Perhaps that's your problem?)

But, if you simply tell filePro to print to "\\server\printer", or better 
still, "win:\\server\printer", then there is no need for the "net use" 
command in the first place.
