Although I am no longer a New York Resident, I do have some qualms with the
public unions.
The New York City police negotiated retirement benefits based on the last 3
years average pay. This is not base pay but base pay plus overtime. Some
or should I say most officer's retirement pay is much higher than their base
pay. Some patrolman retired on well over $100,000 when their pay was
75,000. A few even received upwards of $200,000. They had friendly
supervisors giving them the lion's share of the overtime.
I think this is the type of thing that angers many people.
