In other words, it was not possible that ba/bb/bc still contained the values
you put in them, despite the fact that you previously said that you verified
their contents.

Ken,
When I turned on the debugger and checked the visible values, they appeared
to be correct. Your solution of using a msgbox would have shown me that
part of the values had been cut off thereby causing the problem with the
browse lookup. Once the dim foobar had the dummy field values changes,
everything worked properly.
Too bad on cannot scroll the value field in the debugger when the value is
larger than the display area.
