filePro with Windows 7 - PRINTERS

Ken,
This fp2rtf thing... Well, I know all about it... And I have used it... And
I can safely say that it is without any doubt, the worst implementation of
anything that has ever been included in filePro. You should be happy you
had nothing to do with it. To suggest that it might even *possibly* serve
to do what the gentleman needs is a real stretch. It can not do much... In
fact, it is a pain in the *ss to use, requires you to go into a different
product (the dumb Atlantis thing) and well, the extra steps make it a
really, really ridiculous band-aid approash.... And in the end, the hassle
trying to get around the simplest of needs makes it as I say, just a
terrible, terrible glom on that I can't ever imagine getting into the
product in the originating days.
If I encapsulated the idea of the fp2rtp thing... It wouldn't even sound
like anything anyone would *ever* want to do. Basically, you genearate your
output in this .rtf format, then go into a Word like program called Atlantis
to "print" the document from there. Can you really imagine anyone wanting
to do this just to run a report or some checks... Or well, do any kind of
the output filePro is so healthily able to do to any PCL5 printer? I can't.
The best suggestion is get with a good printer. The next best is get
PrintWizard.... Or it may even be the first best suggestion in some cases,
because it has so many other features that make it valuable above and beyond
what filePro can do. For example, your printouts can be converted
automatically to PDF and attached to email for just one... I don't even use
PrintWizard but I know how useful it is from seeing lots of folks use it in
many different ways.
If, on the other hand, the gentleman wants a nice cheap soltuion, buy an
HP1518 color laserjet PCL5c. It rocks, and will rock and be inexpensive
until I have to buy 4 new toner cartridges for it. :-(
John
P.S. - I/m sorry to bash the fp2rtf thing, but it is really, really,
severely limited and a totally off the wall solution to the problem it
addresses.
