We have about 50 Dell Optiplex's, 10 Latitude Notebooks and 3 2800 Rack
mount servers.
Over the past 6 years, we have experienced the following problems with those
computers:
1. The problem with the capacitors on the GX270 motherboards, but it was an
industry wide issue from a specific supplier, not just a Dell issue. Dell
replaced the motherboards on the effected computers and they are still in
use today (6 years later).
2. We had a batch of 6 GX620's that came with Western Digital hard drives.
Dell replaced the ones that were still under warranty when they failed, but
since then everyone one of those hard drives has died.
3. Some RAM chips and a remote access network management card went bad in
one of our servers.
To me, that's not many problems for that many computers over 6 years.
We receive excellent pre-sales support (used all the time) and good post
sales support (rarely needed). We buy the business systems, not the
consumer systems. We have nothing against HP, it's just that every time we
get computers, Dell offers us 5 to 10% better pricing. We don't build our
own computers since I want my IT people implementing business solutions and
because once you add in the labor expense for my people, building computers
would actually be more expensive for us.
