That's good news.  I wouldn't have thought it possible.  So, it seems that
the XP Mode does its job very well... even the 5.0 mfc dll's are not
required. I guess a native version is a native version is a native
version....

Update:
 
After poking around, I finally found the problem - the human interface
(me)!.
 
It turns out,  a few lines in 'c:\fpplus.bat' came over corrupted and this
caused the problem I experienced.
 
Everything seems to be working fine for now in Windows 7 with XPmode, except
for 'full screen mode'. I have tried several settings and although it is
more than usable I will probably tinker tomorrow with some additional
settings to get closer to what I need.
I truly appreciate everyone who responded on and offline to my request for
help. I did check on the version which turns out to be 4.08.00. Hopefully I
will not find any additional 'gotchas'. Thanks again to this great list!
