It's been a long time since I did this, but maybe I can help a little.

One of the frustrating parts of an 856 is figuring out if you have to
provide the data in "standard" format or in "Pick-and-pack" format.
Most likely your trading partner is using "Pick and Pack" but you need
to check what their requirements are. Even then it could get a little
confusing. (See here: http://www.ec-bp.biz/joomla/content/view/377/10009/ )

When I included "pick and pack" and "format" in a Google search it gave
a lot more information on formatting for an ASN.

Here is a bunch of responses to an inquiry that may help.

Some additional searching that is better targeted to your requirements
might also help.

The one time I did this I had a system where I could do manual data
entry of the data and have the system export the flat-file that I would
have to match. It made things a lot easier. But I still had to figure
out which Pack format I was going to use first.

I hope this helps.
