I have my own termcap file using TERMCAP=/usr/local/etc/termcap
that has proper xterm termcap definitions for modern termcaps
along with some slightly customized fp/termcap files to deal with
some wierd terminals I have encountered over the years.

All the SCO systems we support are accessed either from OS X,
Linux, or the Microsoft Virus, Windows, very rarely from anything
that uses SCO's ancient xterm.

I think that some OS X users are using Powerterm to access SCO
systems (is that right Rodgers?).

Personally I can't stand the color things that happen with
scoterm and scoansi, much preferring simple monochrome in
xterms.

Been there, done that.

I typically edit the .profile to handle things like this with
something like (this is not real, only an example).

case "$TERM" in #{
    cons25)
        TERM=ansi
        export TERM
        ;;
    xterm-color|linux)
        TERM=xterm
        export TERM
        ;;
esac #}

A Democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only
exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse out of
the public treasury. From the moment on the majority always votes for the
candidate promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the
result that Democracy always collapses over a loose fiscal policy, always
to be followed by a Dictatorship.
