A good rule of thumb for telephones on a network or other digital
type phone system is 64k per telephone, for all telephones
concurrently being used to talk. That is called a channel by the
telephone service providers. Enough phones on a section of the
network could overload the switches, conceivably. That would only
take around 160 phones all routed through the same 10mb leg of the
network.
