With neither thought nor caution, Don Bush blurted:

vBulletin, IkonBoard, Gossamer Threads. Those are some of the more popular
ones out there. Avoid PHPBB like the plague, it's a security nightmare
like you wouldn't believe. Not sure if they still make Ultimate Bulleting
Board (UBB) anymore.
I personally liked Vanilla. There may be plugins for posting images to
it...in fact, I'd bet on it. It suits my design sensibilities more than
the others, despite its being written in PHP. The -physical- layout and
design was cleaner and more minimalist. However, user management is not
forum-specific-friendly. (IOW, you get access to "the system" and at best
there are plugins that kludge in per-forum access restrictions, but by
default every user gets access to all forums, which was its only real
downfall. However, you can host multiple instances of it per server, so
really you can just segregate them by Vanilla instance and have groups of
forums that way, with separate user accounts. It's workable.)
Did I mention "avoid PHPBB"? :) I don't think I can state that loudly or
often enough.
