OT: keepalive, PPPoE, and ssh - no joy

No; I assumed that if you saw fit to mention a kernel version, that
OpenSSH was a server version.  I was therefore  inquiring about the
client.  Both ends can send keepalives;  I was clear about that, right?

Then the problem continues to sound like keepalives.  tcpdump, perhaps?
