Ken:
Since I guess I started this freechain issue I'll continue it. If *clerk or
*report automatically rebuilds the freechain I was under the impression it
will take substantially longer for it to rebuild this way as opposed to
exiting the application which was automatically rebuilding the freechain and
running it manually. Is this true?
Secondly, I tried today to manually rebuild the freechain on my problem file
while allowing people to continue working in the file. I did exit the
application which triggered the automatic rebuild of the freechain and I
exited all applications would be adding or deleting records during the
rebuild (even though you've already stated fP will locked these functions
down). I tried to manually run the freechain rebuild approx. 10 times over
a 5 minute period and kept getting an "Error reading file" message from fP.
When I had all users exit all fP app's and I disabled access to the filePro
network shared drive the freechain rebuild ran fine.
Any suggestions you can make? The app. I run which will predictably cause a
freechain does a lookup to a mirror_file; copy mirror_file;write
mirror_file;delete. Both files are rather large in terms of the number of
fields and possibly size.
