Looking for some Linux advice

I knew I was right. I looked it up:

"If it does then it also gives me a chance to get my feet wet with Linux
without having to worry about porting all my applications over to it."

I warned you off and cite lack of knowledge would potentially bite you.
http://lists.celestial.com/pipermail/filepro-list/2006-November/014461.html
"First, let me say that I appreciate the warnings from everyone, but I am
on a tight budget and I have confidence in myself that I can set things
up. I also feel that I have room for some screw-ups since our computer
system is in support of our operations and not key to them. While I
wouldn't like to go without it, I have done so for a day or two." -Boaz
Enjoy your confidence in yourself, be adventurous--and take it to an
appropriate forum.
You ignored the warnings, and clearly are either unable to or don't want to
pay for linux training or someone to do it for you. You were warned ahead
of time and chose to ignore the warnings. Now you want advice--from the
wrong community, at that.
At this point, having reread the previous exchange, I'm feeling little
sympathy, especially when you're asking flat-out OS-related questions
unrelated to fP. You're not even -on- the Samba-related fP issue in your
most recent post, so the relevance at this point is nil. The only thing it
has in common with fP is that you're planning on running fP on it. Well
some people apparently run fP from their Palm or laptop while in their car;
should we start letting them beg knowledge off professional mechanics that
may -happen- to sub to the list, because they use fP from the car? "If I'm
changing my alternator belt, is there anything I should watch out for?"
It's stretched that thin, Boaz.
-This- is an example of why I get more than a tad ornery in this situation.
People ask, don't like the answers they hear, do it their way anyway,
and then want you to help them along at no cost to them when they get in
over their heads. I said I'd gotten burned in the past by people doing
this...that was privately. Those incidents, plus your insistance that you
know better when you obviously don't, are almost turning this into a bloody
crusade issue with me.
Having reread it, I'm feeling uncharitable enough about your abuse of
goodwill and flouting of reasonable advice that I hope everyone lets you
sit with your precious confidence unless they're properly and profitably
retained to help you.
