Filepro and Samba

I changed the subject title to more accurately reflect the direction of
my questions.
Since I only use Filepro as a fileserver and print server, can I use a
Linux server running Samba instead? With this Filepro is still running
natively on the local windows machines and sees the files on a drive on
the network just like normal.
Will this work?
If it does then it also gives me a chance to get my feet wet with Linux
without having to worry about porting all my applications over to it.
