That, and I think everyone that ever signed up for downloading a demo,
whether they did actually download it or not, is getting tagged. It seems
more reasonable to limit it to paid licensees, but we'll make the
assumption I'm wrong there, just to give the benefit of the doubt.
Now, if you're going to send mail to everyone that you've ever had contact
with, not just past conference attendees, it would make sense to cover all
the bases, such as having appropriate answers that a fair percentage of
respondants might pick. An example would be:
What city could you travel to in order to attend a conference?
... Location, location, location ...
[ ] I would not attend a conference.
Or more to the point, question #1 should have been:
Would you consider attending such a conference?
[ ] Yes.
[ ] No.
I went to fill out the survey in an effort to do my bit, and it was
entirely impossible to give them any meaningful feedback at all, since
their survey predetermines that yes, you'll be attending just because
they're making the offer, let's jump right to travel plans. I cleared and
aborted.
By using the "Field of Dreams" model of thinking, they're going to see
fewer results than they ordinarily would, and be entirely able to determine
whether the poor feedback turnout is due to lack of interest in attending,
or lack of effort/time on the respondant's part.
Poorly thought-out and executed, IMNSHO. Always allow for the unexpected,
and always cover reasonable bases the user might touch on. I'm sorry,
but even unofficial sites (GateWorld.net as an example) have surveys that
cover, "I have never attended a convention," when discussing conventions.
You'd expect more forethought from a company doing actual business.
Usually.
