Well, the fact that you are getting an error message
on an index K when you are not using one, would lead
me to think that the error message is inaccurate :-)

You certainly at this point should attempt to send
fptech the necessary files to duplicate this problem.

I assume you are using 5.6 dxmaint also?  You never
verified that.

I have seen filepro give inaccurate error messages in
the past when it crashes on a lookup line.  If I am
recalling properly, in some of those instances the
problem was related to certain environment variables
that had to do with files or buffers.  You may want to
look into that or manually close selected lookups as
appropriate.
