Only Henry Melancon would say something like:

One of the reasons I surmised it was an urban legend is that when microwave
ovens first came out, there were very strict warnings against putting
anytning metal in them, as they could damage the units. (I've also
accidentally gotten tin-foil in one and it made a rather impressive light
show for the 2 seconds it took me to turn it off).
Doesn't this damage the microwave?
