OT: Web automation tools

I've got to regularly download some data from a website into filePro.
The website uses java applets and javascript heavily so I can't use cURL
to login and grab the data as I've done in the past.
I've scoured the web and found several "web automation" tools that
appear to mimic the users input & clicks and pass them to Internet
Explorer (yes, it has to be Internet Explorer -- the site doesn't work
properly in Firefox [save the rants, it won't be changed for me]). I
don't know if they're usable or not.
Has anyone had experience scripting Internet Explorer on a site which
includes Java applets? What tools did you use?
Thanks.
