Oy, that's archaic.  Takes me back quite a ways, actually. :) Are there
actually still printers that currently -need- this kind of babysitting
after their initial calibration, assuming they need one?  Tractor-feed
mostly, I should suspect...and those generally stayed in line as far
back as the Epson FX-85 except after changing out the box of paper you
were working from.  I suppose receipt printers might do it as well, and
possibly more often, as the kitchen types are often a strip/roll but not
tractor-driven.  Hearing about something like this nowadays makes me
wonder if it's simply done out of habit from ye olden days, or if there's
something wrong with the printers.

Makes sense about alignment check not working with a spooler; those are two
totally different environments/contexts.  It would be an easy job position
to create though...Printer Operator.  Hack a print spooler to only print
when a job is confirmed, letting the operator do checks inbetween and then
approve each queued job in turn.  Slush college job. :)
