When we jumped from the Model II running TRSdos to the Model 16 running
Xenix, the model 16 originally came with 256K. I told my boss that that
would be enough, but with Xenix and filePro version 0.95 running, it would
only let one user work at a time. If a 2nd user tried to log onto the one
spare Tandy terminal that we had attached to it, the machine would slow to a
crawl.
I didn't believe that adding more RAM would solve the problem, but my
boss bumped it up to 512K anyway. We also added the 3-user card, and I was
amazed that we could now run 5 users on the computer at the same time typing
in filePro data with relatively little jerkiness. Based on my IBM mainframe
and Dec PDP experience, I had told him that we would never run 5 users
adequately, even with the additional RAM.
