I don't go to the room any more.
(bear with me please, this paragraph sounds just personal, but the point
it's supporting is not)
I would, because I like everyone else, but, I decided I can't tolerate Johns
attitudes any more and thus since the room is really his, it will never feel
comfortable partaking in it. I can't happily participate in a conversation
he's in. I'm not one of those people who can smile at, and pal around with,
someone I in truth have a basic problem with. I have tried to let some time
pass and put this issue behind me and offer pertinant and helpful comments
in response to comments or questions he's made a couple times here on the
list since then, and been utterly unacknowledged, so I have given up on even
trying anymore.
I am willing to have it phrased that I have the problem and removed myself,
laying the emphasis and the blame for my loss of access to the room on me. I
don't really feel that way but I'm willing to accept that at least some if
not most or even all others may sum it up that way.
The point is, regardless who's "fault", it's a fact that a single bad
interaction with a single personality has the potential to screw up a whole
one of your very few resources of filepro help.
I would not say the same about the list. The only analogs for John being the
owner and often present member of the room, for the list, would be the list
owner & moderator, both of which have been perfectly dispassionate in
administering the list as far as I have seen even though one of them is far
from a dispassionate participant in the list. Specifically, I beleive Mark
does at least some adminning of the list and can clear or deny messages, and
I have certainly had my differences of opinion with him, and he's certainly
said things to people (not just me) here that I find inexcusable, but none
of that appears to bleed over into his list admin role. He may call you
lousy programmer or unethical service provider or just plain stupid, but he
won't stop you from saying the same or worse back.
