Although Ken did not suggest this, consider upgrading to 5.0.14.

Second, have you tried running these imports from the server?  Set up a
server startup file or create a batch file to run your imports either
directly or from the task manager.  By running this on the server, you are
eliminating Workstation OS and networking problems.

Are you using any close file functions in the processing?  If so, replace
them with writes.
