I don't want to be too critical of your suggestion, especially if it works
for you. But I will offer one alternative, and one caution.

The alternative: it is quite easy to tell Internet Explorer (or presumably
any other web browser) to print a specified HTML file, even on a specified
printer. (If someone asks me how, I'll double check it and post it on
Monday).

The caution: HTML is not designed for print media. There are numerous
problems that can come up, such as:

1. Page breaks are hard to control.

2. Font size is problematic. What is font size 5?

3. Page width is often a problem. Try to print a 132-column report.

4. Precise placement of text on the page is impossible.

But if it works for you...
