First, I'm assuming that you can still access the 'net, and can do
things like access web pages, or ssh/telnet.
Is this system connected directly to the 'net, or do you go through
a router on your LAN?
Has the router been reconfigured somehow to prevent accessing the ftp
ports (20 and 21)?
Can other systems on the LAN access ftp?
Does the system have a firewall installed locally, and did it get
reconfigured somehow to prevent ftp access?
